Are There any Dangers of Chromium Picolinate?
Is Chromium Picolinate Safe to Take?
You would think that with all the positive press surrounding the benefits of chromium picolinate, you could find some shred of evidence that would point to the dangers of chromium picolinate.
I mean, after all there has to be some negative side effect associated with this health supplement right?
Unfortunately for all the naysayers out there, even the U.S Food & Drug Administration (FDA) can find no dangers of chromium picolinate.
I don't want to bore you but we feel we need to include the FDA's statement regarding the dangers of chromium picolinate:
"FDA concludes at this time, under the preliminary requirements of 21 CFR 101.14(b)(3)(ii), that the use of chromium picolinate in dietary supplements as described in the [approved] qualified health claims discussed in section IV is safe and lawful under the applicable provisions Act."
...read it and sleep!
In addition to the FDA, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) "reaffirmed that chromium picolinate (CP) is safe, as demonstrated by more than 30 human clinical trials and a large body of animal trials."
Who's to argue?
The dangers of chromium picolinate were further reported on by none other than the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Slesinski said this:
"The safety research overwhelmingly confirms that chromium picolinate is a safe nutritional supplement. Research studies conducted by the USDA, NTP and at independent testing laboratories, show no evidence of genetic toxicity."
Another study researching the dangers of chromium picolinate and published in Food and Chemical Toxicology agrees...
The study's co-author Ronald S. Slesinski, PhD, DABT, president-elect of the Regulatory & Safety Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology and senior science manager at ENVIRON has this to say:
"The collective research indicates that chromium picolinate is a safe nutritional supplement. The accepted safety trials, including Ames Tests and chromosome studies conducted by NTP and at independent testing laboratories, show no evidence of genetic toxicity."
In summary, our research hasn't uncovered any dangers of chromium picolinate.
